Turnover and profit growth for historic Sandwell chemical manufacturing firm

One of Sandwell’s longest standing manufacturing firms Robinson Brothers has reported increased turnover and profit during its latest financial year.

Robinson Brothers was founded in 1869 and is now one of the UK’s largest independent manufacturers of fine chemicals and rubber accelerators. The company offers a wide range of custom manufactured intermediates on a commercial scale from kilograms to multi-tonnes.

Its team of chemists are experts in custom synthesis, contract manufacture and process optimisation. It supplies organisations in the pharmaceutical, medical devices, veterinary, agrochemical and speciality chemical industries, as well as many others.

Robinson Brothers plays a crucial role in supplying products to the national critical infrastructure and as a result, the company is considered to be part of the key worker network.

With bases in West Bromwich and Daventry the historic firm has reported a turnover of £40.8m for the year to 31 December 2019, up from £36m the previous year. The company’s pre-tax profits also increased from £3.1m to £4.7m.

Its operating profits have been rising year on year, and new products through research and development continue to increase.

A statement by the directors that accompanied the financial report said: “We have now experienced sales growth in each of the last five years, with operating profits also rising every year except for 2017 when results were flat.

“New products coming through R&D and operations continue to grow, which bodes well for the future.”
